The traditional career path obviously wasn't designed for today.The traditional career path requires that you acquire formal education to the level your finances allow, then look for employment opportunities that maximize your financial gain. Of course this is not as easy as it seems, plus there are several cons that accompany following this career path. The truth is people are advised to follow this path by the majority of the society without really understanding the consequences of this particular decision.
The traditional career path wants you to be loyal to companies who no longer feel any loyalty towards their employees. Nowadays companies are driven to achieve their goals and objectives by perfecting the art of 'hiring and firing', there is less focus on employee development and satisfaction which is really important for increased productivity and performance. Only the very big multi-national corporations understand and practice this, which is the secret behind their continued success. The truth is it requires a lot of hard-work, patience, experience and expertise to get a gig in this very big multi-national corporations. Otherwise be ready for a life where you push yourself from one job to another seeking job security, job satisfaction and commensurate reward for your services.

When you have the right job mentality you realize there is nothing like retirement because you don't stop doing what you love doing. The ladder you are climbing was created by a human like you, no smarter than you but someone who chose a different path from the traditional career path.

That's stagnation, you are not learning new things or improving your skill sets. For the people who take life seriously, who want to leave their prints in the sands of time; you may have to start thinking about a different career path.
